Basset Hound Club of Switzerland

BHCS is one of the breed clubs affiliated to the Swiss Kennel Club (SKC)(Schweizerische Kynologische Gesellschaft, Société cynologique suisse). Founded in 1999, it is exclusively devoted to the Basset Hound breed in Switzerland. Today BHCS has around 60 members and is happy when people who love the breed decide to join the club.

Aim and purpose

These are laid down in the Statutes and BHCS Breeding Regulations. The club sees its task as the promotion of pure-breed, type and health of Basset Hounds, their appropriate and breed-specific care in addition to an increase in responsible breeding and ownership.

All Basset Hounds intended for reproduction by breeders who are members of BHCS or SKC have to pass a stringent Breeding Selection (Ankörung). This comprises not only an appraisal of their conformation and behaviour, but also the fulfilment of health requirements regarding hip and elbow dysplasia and an eye examination. Such careful selection of brood bitches and stud dogs helps to ensure that their progeny will be sound.

Membership

Everyone who loves our breed is welcome to become a member of BHCS, whether or not he or she owns a Basset. Membership makes it possible to follow and actively support the development of the breed in Switzerland, as well as taking part in the activities of the club. Our members meet at the Annual General Assembly and various outings and social activities throughout the year where they can share a mutual hobby and get together with other Basset fanciers and their four-footed friends.

The cost of membership: as from 2009, the annual subscription is CHF 90.00, which includes the obligatory annual subscription to one or other of the official bodies of the SKC (Hunde or Cynologie romande). Other persons living under the same roof pay CHF 30.00. The above-mentioned magazines publish interesting articles about dogdom in general, as well as a regular BHCS column providing our members with news of the club and details of its forthcoming activities.

Should your interest in BHCS have been aroused, please apply to our Secretary or the breeder of your Basset for a membership application form. The Committee thanks you and looks forward to welcoming you as a member of the club.
